Policeman Killed in Paris in Suspected Terrorist Attack

One policeman has been killed and a second wounded in a shooting in central Paris, police say.

Police said at least two attackers were involved and one was killed in the incident. The Champs Elysees, where the shooting occurred, has been sealed off.

Police are reporting that evidence points to the attacks being a terrorist act.

France goes to the polls on Sunday in the first round of the presidential election.

Jihadism is a major issue in the vote after attacks claimed by ISIS.

Police authorities informed the public to avoid the area.

A Reuters reporter saw a helicopter flying low over central Paris, apparently part of a follow-up police operation.

A witness identified only as Ines told BFM that she heard a shooting, saw a man’s body on the ground and the area was quickly evacuated by police.

The attack came three days before the first round of balloting in France’s tense presidential election.

France is currently under a state of emergency following a spate of Islamist terror attacks.
